Based on the year 2043, based around the after effects of the Apocalypse, Eli is the main character, and is played by Denzel Washington. Eli runs the Apocalyptic ruins alone, while guarding The Book, which is supposed to contain all the elements and knowledge needed, in order to save the society. However, many people will step into his path, preventing him from fulfilling his tasks and challenging his combat abilities.

Carnegie, played by Gary Oldman, is the person who will challenge Eli the most, as he continuously tries to plot ways to steal The Book of Eli, for himself. However, when you watch The Book of Eli, you will follow Eli through many intense combat scenes, chases, explosions, and fighting, as he tries to protect the book and keep it in his possession. As rumors of The Book of Eli is spread throughout the society, amongst the remaining people in the community, people begin to become hostile. The hostility generates realistic, action packed scenes, setting a high standard to future action movies, coming out during 2010.

First released during the Comic-Con 2009 and The Book of Eli online trailer has displayed very intense, action packed scenes, which were also featured as a trailer to the movie Orphan.
